Overview

The Green Women Platform Initiative is a programme conceptualised by the Pan Africa Agency of the Great Green Wall. This initiative aims to empower women living within the Sahel region by addressing their fundamental needs, promoting gender inclusivity, and utilising the roles of society, culture, and the economy to create a supportive environment for women’s prosperity. The Green Women Platform initiative seeks to provide a dedicated platform for women to actively engage and contribute to the broader objectives of the Great Green Wall. The initiative aims to empower women, enhance their skills, and encourage community participation in preserving and restoring the environment. The programme strives to collectively contribute to realising the Great Green Wall’s vision by bringing together a network of independent and capable women.

The Sahel region faces unique challenges that affect women’s well-being and economic empowerment. However, women in this region often encounter barriers that prevent them from achieving their full potential. To address these challenges, the Green Women Platform has launched a comprehensive initiative that takes into account the interconnected roles of society, culture, and the economy in shaping women’s lives.

Just like any individual, women have various physical, emotional, social, and economic needs.  However, in the Sahel region of Nigeria, women have diverse needs encompassing multiple aspects of their lives. Recognising that individual needs vary based on cultural background, socio-economic status, and personal circumstances is essential. By acknowledging these differences, we can better understand and address the needs of women in the region.
