The Honourable Chairman House Committee on Environment and Habitat, Honourable Obinna Chidoka said the National Assembly is ready to partner and support the National Agency for The Great Green Wall (NAGGW) in achieving the set goals for the Agency by the Federal Government.
The Chairman, stated this today in Abuja, when the House Committee on Environment and Habitat visited National Agency for the Great Green Wall for an Oversight Function.
Honourable Chidoka said that as partners, their visit was to appraise the 2018 budget performance and to make sure that the activities of the Agency is well known and also that the Federal Government gives it the attention that it deserves for the benefit of the people.
The members of the committee expressed satisfaction with the performance of the year under review, however, tasked the Agency to pay more attention in the areas of engaging the affected communities for them to buy in and own the programme.
The Director General, NAGGW Dr. Bukar Hassan in his remarks earlier, welcome the committee members and said that 2018 budget performance was fair, though there were challenges of delay in releasing funds as most of their programmes follows the sequence of the seasons in the year, but the Agency was able to make remarkable achievements and promised to do more if funds are released in due season.
National agency For Great Green Wall is saddled with the responsibility of discouraging desertification and land degradation. And the eleven staes in the North are affected, these states are; Sokoto, Kebbi, Kastina, Zamfara, Kano, Jigawa, bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, Borno and Adamawa.
