Fatima Aliyu Magaji is an environmentalist and certified climate champion by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network. She is the founder of the environmental initiative, FAM4FUTURE. Through this platform, she consistently leverages collaborations and partnerships to champion environmental sustainability initiatives in Nigeria. The significant impact has been leading collaborations with the Federal Ministry of Environment, UNDP, etc in providing platforms to enable crucial dialogue for environmental sustainability and climate action.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Applied Chemistry from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. Her interests lie in addressing the issue of plastic pollution in Nigeria, advancing the circular economy, and utilising her platforms to advocate for responsible consumption and production, stronger environmental laws and the implementation of existing policies. In addition, she is also interested in climate change and global environmental governance, and international policy processes.
In 2022, she served as Nigeria’s contact point leading the Nigerian youth delegation to the 17th UN Climate Change Conference of Youth in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. She was selected as one of two young people who represented Nigeria at the 1st edition of the Pan African Agency for the Great Green Wall ‘Green Youth Caravan’ in Senegal, Mauritania, and Mali travelling a distance of 3000kms to learn about combating land degradation, desertification, and drought within a local context. She has been named a NAGGW Youth Champion by the National Agency for the Great Green Wall upon her return from the caravan.
